Week In Review~July 8

I have to say that I’m enjoying Week In Review hostessed by Meghan at Clean Eats, Fast Feets.  Being a part of WIR makes me pay attention to what I do (because I don’t want to sound like a dullard when I start to write this post!) and keeps me more mindful.  I’ve been trying to do this in all areas of my life, some more successfully than others.

Week In Review Button Final

I’m thinking that this week Won’t be a day by day, just a general compilation of the fabulousness of my life…you can take that as tongue in cheek or serious, depending on how well you know my life.  Either way…I get up each day and keep plugging along!

I’m finally starting to really make friends with my new phone-a Samsung Galaxy S III.  I downloaded Twitter and have become mildly obsessed with it.  I’m not posting That much, but I can see it being a big help when we’re on our cross-country trip this fall.  Easier than trying to do regular posts to BCDC because, it’s tricky on the road some times.  You can follow me @BCDCFran.  If I ever learn how to put those little buttons on the blog (or pay someone to do it for me…not my First choice) then you’ll know this by just looking. Until then, I’ll tell you.

I also discovered Instagram this week and I Love it! I’m still haven’t got all of that hashtag stuff straight (it’s still a pound symbol to me…) but I’m going to get a tutorial soon from a friend of mine who is very well versed in it.  I tried to be BCDCFran on there to keep things simple, but I seem to come up as fabstiles.  That’s ok because that’s me, too! Food and my patriotic sneakers have been my big contributions so far, but as I become more comfortable with it, I’ll get more creative!

Various aspects of life are a bit unsettled at the moment and I keep working at trying to settle them.  I’m keeping a positive outlook and I think I’ll eventually come out on top.  At least that’s my plan.

I did more sorting and packing this week and I feel very good about that. A lot of it was inspired by the fact of all the things I gathered up for last week’s yard sale. I didn’t want to take it all back into the basement and since I knew it was going to be picked up by the local thrift store, I left it all in the plastic bins in the yard.  In spite of the rain it fared well.  There was still So much rain this week.

What I did need to do was open the bins and put all of the clothing into big plastic trash bags.  I didn’t want the thrift store taking my bins. I got one day of no rain and I hurried out to do that.

Pickup was set for Friday morning between 10 am and 11 am.  I got up and started bringing up the things from the basement that were still there and moving the things that couldn’t be put in plastic bags into cardboard boxes. I was almost finished when I see a big van drive up in front of the house at 9:45 am!!  I was thrilled.  My worry was that since it was trash day, I didn’t want to set the things out and have the trash people think it was for them!  With 3 of us working on it, the entire load was out in no time.  I was so excited.  Now that I know how this works, I feel good that I can start gathering together things I Don’t want and I can get them out of the house. Progress Will Be Achieved!!

Of course, we celebrated Independence Day on Thursday. Nothing fancy, just lunch with Ele and our friend, Jim from Washington, D.C.  We enjoyed it and I’ll confess there was ice cream involved later!

Saturday found me as usual at my Weight Watchers meeting.  After having not been at my regular meeting last week due to the yard sale and having an emotional (eating ) week, I was not expecting to be very pleased with the result.  I was shocked (again!) when I lost a half pound.  Don’t know where this is coming from.  I’m just going to try to hold on to it.  I don’t actually want to lose any more (never thought I’d hear myself say That!) just maintain.  I’ll be working on that.

Later in the afternoon, Ralph and I happened to be in the same shopping plaza where the thrift store is that took possession of all my treasures from the yard sale.  He suggested going in. I didn’t want to because he always buys things and I’m trying to get rid of things.  As I was walking around the store, I spotted many of the things that I had donated.  It made me feel good that I was able to contribute because I know the proceeds from this store go to a school that needs help.  I found myself checking out to see what was there.  I didn’t go into the clothing section, but I’m sure I would recognize a lot of things there too!

It’s Sunday now and as I sit here, I really have No idea what the day holds.  The scary thing is that this is our third day in a row with sunny skies and no rain.  I can hardly believe it.  Maybe we can all dry out a bit.  I know that my basement will be grateful as well as my sometimes leaky roof.  Think I’ll try to get some sunshine and fresh air today.  What a concept!

Be sure to go to Clean Eats, Fast Feets to check out the other reviewers!

Happy Monday!

  1. One time we were shopping in our Goodwill store and we saw a few of the shirts we had donated! It was a good feeling.

    • I agree, Diane! I felt really good knowing that the things I didn’t need anymore would be helping the special needs students at this school. They’re getting more because I’m Working In The Basement!! Have a great day!

  2. Congratulations on the loss at your meeting! That’s great Fran 🙂

I haven’t jumped on the twitter or instagram train yet and I’m not sure I ever will. Haha. I have a twitter account but I just like Facebook so much more! It’s a lot more personable and I feel like I can communicate with all of my friends better on there.

That said, I have a Galaxy II and just love it, so I’m sure the III is fantastic!

    • Thanks, Madison, I’m not really trying to lose now, but I guess I’m doing something right. I’m still confused on Twitter and Instagram. All those hashtag things, as I said. But I’ve gotten a few photos up, mostly lunch and my patriotic sneakers that I wore on Independence Day. It’s kind of fun though. Have a great day!

  3. Congrats 🙂

It always feels so accomplished to clean everything out and give yourself a fresh start! I’d also love to get all my social media stuff linked up on my blog but sadly I am not that tech savy… there are some great tutorials out there on other peoples blogs though that might help you link everything together!

    • Thanks, Sarah! I think I’m just going to have to find someone who can help me with all of that. I do amaze myself that I’ve come this far. Still working on cleaning out and I couldn’t be happier…Have a great day!

  4. A busy week for a busy lady!

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  5. It feels so good to get rid of unwanted or cluttered stuff doesn’t it. Great job Fran! I know you’ve been working on that for a long while so it must feel so good to have made so much progress in a single week.

  6. I love Instagram! I’m not sure I really take full advantage of the hashtags either though…

  7. My life these days is all about sorting and packing so I can relate my friend.

I am addicted to Instagram. I have no idea why?? Love it.

    • I feel that I am supporting you in spirit, Ameena by working on my sorting/packing at the same time that you are. I can’t help in person, but I’m sending good packing vibrations! I really am starting to enjoy Instagram…just have to figure out the hashtag stuff. Hang in there, soon you’ll be on this side of the country!
