Snapshot Saturday~May 18

I hate to miss a chance to participate in Snapshot Saturday sponsored by Alyce at At Home With Books.  I’m writing and scheduling this on Friday.  Not sure what time on Saturday I will actually be able to link it up.  The reason for that is  I will be participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Chestnut Ridge Park in Mantua, NJ.  This will be our fourth year walking in the Relay…we walk all night…we even did it in the rain one year. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate this year.

If anyone is interested in donating to support our team, please go to my fundraising page.  It’s simple and easy.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

On to the photography!

I’ve talked before about living in an old house that had belonged to my Grandparents.  One of the things left over from them living here besides the creaky floors and damp basement are some flowers.  Iris are my favorite flowers and Gram left some of them.  I’m sharing two photos today.

With the blue bells…at least that’s what we always called them…I’m not sure of their official name.  The green surrounding the flowers are day lily plants that haven’t bloomed yet.  I like the depth that the green adds to the photos.

Taking center stage!!

I wasn’t sure if I thought these photos were very good when I first took them.  But the more I look at them, the better I like them!

Be sure to stop by at At Home With Books to see the work of some terrific photographers.  Leave some comments, too, because we all love comments!

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

hope the relay went well, fran – thinking of you! xoxo!

    • Thanks, Cathy! The Relay was great. Got home at 5:45, slept a while and now I’m up and going. It was fun for our team to all be together. If I can get my brain together and if I can figure out how to get my pictures off of my Smarter-Than-Me phone to post on BCDC, I will do it in the next day or two. Have a great weekend!

  2. These iris are unique and you saw them beautifully! Wondering if you might be willing to trade a tuber or two – I have a few colors to share!!

  3. Ooh, lovely irises. I miss them! Can’t grow them in FL. Yours are beautiful!

  4. The flowers are really pretty. You don’t see irises very often these days, but I think they are lovely. My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/vsILU

My day lily plants are coming with lots of green too, but I don’t have pretty irises to contrast with them. Beautiful – thanks for sharing!

  6. I like the tangled look in with all the green. I put some iris in last year and they are blooming now.

  7. Beautiful! We have gorgeous deep purple irises, but I missed them blooming this year!

    Enjoy the weekend –

I remember growing up in Westville, NJ, most of the yards I played in we’re loaded with Iris’s, Blue Bells and Queen Anne’s Lace…it’s so rare to find them today…I think more people opt for annuals and mulch…you’re so lucky to have some of your Grandmom’s lovingly tended perennials greeting you each Spring…very nostalgic 🙂

    • Hi Chris! How nice to hear from you! Yes, I love them. I used to have more but I guess as they got older, they just didn’t bloom anymore. I love watching as the various things bloom. I like a little more natural look rather than everything looking so “tended.” Take care!

  9. Can’t go wrong with flower shots♫ Thanks for commenting on my blog….hope all went well for your relay!

  10. What a wonderful legacy! I wish I had some flowers left from someone’s garden. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

  11. Love the photos, the flowers are beautiful (and my fave color). I also love that they were your grams!

  12. Beautiful flowers!! I always enjoy seeing other people’s gardens/landscaping and those are just gorgeous. Thanks for stopping by my SATURDAY SNAPSHOT post, too!

  13. Irises are my faves too. But I don’t have a green thumb for them. Every fall I plant, but after the winter, they just won’t grow anymore. Yours are stunning, just beautiful.

    • Believe me, Arti, no green thumb here, either. These iris are older than I am (and I’m pretty old!) They just grow where they want and I don’t mess with them. Maybe that’s the secret. Have a great week!

  14. My Iris’ have left to grow at my neighbors. But I do love yours, your blue bells are gorgeous too. Creaky floors are not so bad…Have a good fundraisers.

  15. I’m so jealous you have irises! I think I’ve only ever seen them in flower arrangements Thanks for sharing 🙂

  16. My husband and I rent a house. In front are blooming some beautiful purple flowers, a few of which my husband picked to bring in the house. This got us trying to figure out what they were … Turns out, they’re irises! I’ll have to keep them in mind for when we have our own house. Beautiful flowers!

  18. Irises are lovely. I have some transplanted from my parents’ house. Here’s Mine

  19. So pretty! And I learned something new today…I couldn’t have picked out irises out of a line up and now I can. 🙂

  20. I enjoy irises too, yours are a lovely colour.

  21. The irises are lovely – almost ethereal in your pictures. I don’t think the little flowers are blue bells…but they too are lovely and sweet.
