It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?~February 11

It’s that happy time again, when I get to hang out with all the fun readers at It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?  Of course, this link up is the brainchild of Sheila at Book Journey.  Be sure to check out some of the other blogs when you’re finished here and leave a comment or two.  I’ll be there as soon as I finish here!

I started out the week with The Gilly Salt Sisters by Tiffany Baker.

The Gilly Salt Sisters

I really enjoyed this book.  The characters were richly drawn and in my head I was involved with their lives.  As I read, I kept giving them advise, telling them to do or not do something.  I love  a book with a touch of magic in it.  Here you’re never really sure if there’s magic but it makes it more enjoyable to think there is.  Well worth the read, give it a try.

I jumped into The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis the second installment of the Chronicles of Narnia, although Goodreads calls it the first.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I’m enjoying the series.  I’ve said this about other books, I don’t know how I missed reading these books all these years.  Lewis weaves his characters in such a way that you either love them or hate them, as is appropriate to the story.  I didn’t realize when I read the first book, The Magician’s Nephew, but I believe it was true with that book as well.  I felt like he was there telling me the story rather than I was reading it.  Such fun…I have five to go now.  I’ll probably feel sad when I’m finished the series.

I’m enjoying my current read, Think Twice by Lisa Scottoline.

Think Twice (Rosato & Associates, #13)

I’ve said before that I had no idea Scottoline had written so many books in general and this one is number thirteen in the Rosato & Associates series.  I know I’ve missed a few in the series.  I’ve been reading them mostly (as Usual!) from Goodwill and thrift store finds.  A few months ago, I found four of them and I’ve been able to read at least this group in order which has been helpful to get  a real feel for the series.  Think Twice has really captured my interest.  In fact, I’d like nothing better than to spend this rainy day reading.  We’ll have to see how that works out!

Hoping that the weather improves because I do have some outdoor things I need to accomplish.  Why does it always rain on the day I want to go grocery shopping?!  Just my luck.

Don’t forget to check out all of the blogs linking up over at Book Journey.  I get the best suggestions over there!

Happy Monday!  What ARE you reading?

  1. One of these days I will read past Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. Or, depending on how you number the series, I’ll read before LWW.

  2. I really need to get back into reading books! (And not just blogs haha)

    • Yes, you do, Liz! 😉 I’ve found that I go in and out of reading mass quantities. I’m really challenging myself now. It was a comes and go kind of thing before, but now I’m making it a focus. You’ll get to it! Have a great day!

it’s rainy here, too, fran – hope you can get out and about today!!
i JUST finished maeve binchy’s circle of friends yesterday aft. loved it, and i give it ***1/2 stars and now i should rent the movie. i am now starting john irving’s latest, in one person.
thanks for sharing about your reads – i have never been a cs lewis fan but the gilly salt sisters sounds intriguing! i love books where you think about the characters when you are not reading!

    • Hi Cathy! I have enjoyed most of John Irving’s books. I have one of his more recent ones sitting in my TBR pile, of course from Goodwill. Haven’t gotten to it yet. Glad you finished Maeve and enjoyed it! I just figured I should read the Chronicles. They’re short. Have a great day!

  4. I’m glad you are reading the Chronicles of Narnia in chronological order. I think that is the best way!

  5. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you finish the Narnia series. As for the Scottoline, I’m glad you’re enjoying it, but it turned out to be one of the worst books I’ve read. I abandoned it partway through in a hotel room.

    • Hi Tammy! I’m really enjoying the Chronicles. I always have problems with Scottoline’s books, dumb personal book quirks of my own. This seems like one of the better ones. I do hate when a character talks in circles to the people who could help her and doesn’t make clear what happened. Like making sure they have her name right to begin with. I’m about 100 pages from the end, we’ll see what happens. Thanks for visiting!

  6. I love Scottoline’s books…there’s a new one coming soon.(April), called Don’t Go. Of course I had to preorder it! lol

Thanks for visiting my blog…enjoy your week.

The Gilly Salt Sisters sounds wonderful. (The cover is beautiful too!) I hope you have a great week of reading 🙂

  8. Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe has a great cover!! Hope you enjoy your books!

  9. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia books as a kid and I am definitely planning to reread them at some point. Hope you enjoy the rest of them as much as you enjoyed the first one.

I had borrowed The Gilly Salt Sisters when it first came to our library but had to return it unread. I need to request it again, I’ve seen it both on your site and Sheila from Book Journey’s currently reading list in the same week 🙂 . I love stories with a hint of magic as well and the cover is simple, elegant and stunning. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is one of those books I never read as a kid but wanted to. I think I will read that for my animal adventure or kid’s fiction for the Back to the Classics Challenge I am taking. Thanks for the great ideas!

    • Hi and thanks for visiting! If you like books with a touch of magic, try Sarah Addison Allen-Garden Spells, Sugar Queen, The Girl Who Chased The Moon and one other I can’t think of right now. Loved them, just that hint of magi. I think you would enjoy them!

  11. I am still reading Beautiful Creature, but I’m almost done. The book is SO good! I think I’m going to dive into Maze Runner after this one. 🙂
