I’d have to say that we’ve been pretty lucky in recent months.  In October, the hurricane (for us at least) turned out to be nothing more than a rain storm with a little extra wind.  Sadly so many others suffered real damage and loss.

During the last few days, we’ve been getting phone calls from friends all over the country asking if we were ready for the big storm.  Unlike with the hurricane, I was actually checking the weather prior to when it was supposed to hit.  I told everyone I talked to what I saw on the Weather Channel-rain and a chance of light snow.  No one believed me because as seems to be the trend lately, the national news sources were blowing everything into more than it was and completely out of proportion.

I won’t get on my soapbox about this, I’ll get on to other things.

I must admit that my early rising on Saturday was a good thing.  As I prepared to go to Weight Watchers, I knew I would need to do a little clearing of my car and it needed to warm up.  I must admit it was icy.  My car door took three serious pulls before I could open it, it was frozen!  But I was armed with my broom, great for clearing the snow and I don’t end up with snow all over me thanks to the long handle!  I’m clumsy, remember?    😉

Found my scraper, which was in the car, but I wasn’t sure where…have I mentioned that my car is part of my storage…well, yes, it is.  I was actually on my way in about ten minutes time, which gave the car just enough time to warm up.

When I got to Weight Watchers, I was just about the only person in the parking lot.  I had the pleasure of watching the comedy of the people who were supposed to be clearing the parking lot.  Several trucks with snow plows on the front but, there was no snow on the ground only ice.  They didn’t seem to know what to do, so they were riding around the parking lot as if there was snow.  I’m not kidding.

Then there were the people, I use this term loosely who were spreading salt, also using the term loosely.  They were wandering aimlessly with their little spreaders while using a cup to spread the salt rather than allowing the spreaders to do their job.  I felt like I was caught in an episode of The Walking Dead.

I was able to find a parking spot not far from the entrance to the building and I was able to get in without incident.  There were a lot of people missing from our meeting, I know some were probably afraid of the conditions and I understand that.

After all this, I was rewarded…I lost a pound and a quarter!  I was pretty excited.  I then proceeded to have two breakfasts out, but that’s a story for another day.

Happy Sunday!  So glad the storm passed us by!

  1. you have a way of seeing things that no one else does! You are too funny. So glad that you did well at WW. I know how hard you work at it. Can’t wait to hear the “two breakfast” story! Do I have to wait till WIAW or will you tell me later on today?

  2. Congrats on the weight loss – nice to receive good news after all you went through to get there! We didn’t have our driveway dug out until around noon.

  3. ok, i am relating to your amusement at watching the snow clearing (although in your case maybe we should say NONsnow clearing!) – on friday, i was greatly entertained watching the zany snow plowing by the company that clears the lot at theOTHERstore. i was SURE the guy was going to take out a parked car…i had my fingers crossed it would not be mine!!
glad you guys escaped without too much snow, fran!

    • Hope you’re being careful up there, Cathy. Can’t have anything happening to you! Glad you enjoyed my story. I felt like getting out of the car and asking if they’d like some help. Have a great day and stay safe.

  4. So impressed with your motivation to get to your meeting…I’ve been watching the news so I know how bad the roads are by you!

Congrats Fran…so glad you drove all that way for good news!

    • Hi, Ameena! It would have been frustrating to put in all that effort and get bad news. I was pleased. We were quite lucky in our area though, pretty much as I described it. The ice was gone by afternoon. Have a great day!

  5. Congrats on the weight loss! And way to make it through the bad weather to go! 🙂

  6. Ooh, if you want to get on your soapbox about that, I’ll join you. The national papers here will have front page stories on “worst winter ever” or “Snow to last three weeks” then when you read it, they’ve just got a spokesman from the Met Office (national weather people) saying: “It might be cold for a few weeks yet” – yes, because it’s winter! Aaarggh! Glad the storm passed you by though and congratulations on the loss 🙂

    • I’d love to get on our soapboxes together, Eleanor! It’s a good idea to have people be cautious and give them suggestions on having things they need on hand, but for goodness sake…they just get carried away. Have a great day! We’ve got rain today, so maybe I’ll see an Ark float by… 😉

  7. Wow! I’m glad you were safe and congrats on the weight loss!
