So…Books

I’m feeling less than accomplished today.  I actually got quite a few things accomplished yesterday…it just doesn’t feel like it.  Not sure why.  I’ll need to turn that around today.

When I got back from running Many errands and doing some shopping, it was about 3pm.  I watched Nigella Lawson on the Cooking Channel ( the one cooking show I allow myself lately) and then tried to stay out of Ralph’s way. When he’s working on his artwork for Christmas, it’s usually for the best if I stay out-of-the-way.

I read while watching Nigella.  I’m in the midst of

The Postmistress

It’s a fascinating story. But do you know how sometimes in a book when the author can be extremely descriptive and you’re sucked in by every word?  Well this isn’t it.  She works at being very descriptive, but I just want her to move the story along.  I’m enjoying it nonetheless.

I haven’t shown all of the great book deals I’ve been finding and I’m not about to go in the bedroom to take a photo…Ralph is still sleeping, but believe me, there have been deals.  It is going to be a very difficult job for me to try to figure out my initial reading list for 2013.  I have a plan and it includes books like this…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Not that I’m actually going to read a 1400 page book…well maybe later in the year but certainly not to start off!  I have always been fascinated by this story and I can’t wait to see the movie.  But, yes,  I’m going to try to do some of the classics I’ve missed out on in my reading life.

Interestingly, one on my list is Little Women.  I have a wonderful old copy of it that I got at one of the library book sales.  It has beautiful illustrations in it. I’m almost afraid to actually read it.  But the funny thing is that yesterday when I was trying to stay out of Ralph’s way, Little Women was on one of the movie channels.  It was the updated version with Winona Ryder and I loved it! So now I’m looking forward to the book!

That’s my sneak peek for 2013 for the moment.  I’ve got to get my ducks in a row in So Many ways!!

Lots to accomplish, I’d better get on my way!

Happy Tuesday!!  Where do I start?!?

  1. good luck with your day, fran!!
i remember reading little women as a teen…have not seen the movie! it’s fun to be anticipating our reads for 2013…i will see if i get any books for xmas!

    • Hope you get some wonderful surprises for your book list, Cathy! I am so much more wrapped up in books than I used to be…obviously. I really should take a photo of the tower of books in my bedroom…scary… Have a great day!!

  2. I liked little women a lot. But for the most part…i just don’t like the classics. I’ve tried, but I have a hard time getting into the old-fashioned overly-stiff language.

    • Stephanie, I’m going to give it a try. Starting with Pride and Prejudice since that’s the one everyone raves about. I’ll try a few, but if I’m not enjoying it…Lift and Shift as Ralph says…I’m on to other books!

  3. I just started reading ‘An American Wife’ last night, I am hoping it’s a good read. I just finished a really long book by Kristin Hannah “Firefly Lane”, it had me completely bawling at the end.

  4. I know I read Little Women when I was younger…and I saw it on a flight from Europe! Can’t wait to see more of your planned books!

  5. I need to go back and read some classics I missed – I really want to read Atlas Shrugged.

  6. Haha, I know what you mean when you’re thinking “that’s all very well but get on with the story”! I didn’t know there was a book of Les Miserables though, I’ll have to look out for that. Hope you had a successful day!

    • Oh, Gosh, yes, there’s a book! I’m that way with some films. Especially older ones that I’ve loved for years, I don’t realize they originated as books. The film “Laura” was like that. It’s one of my favorites and it wasn’t till I was in a used book store and found the book that I knew that. I read the book and fortunately it wasn’t too different from the movie. I Hate when they do that!! Have a great day, Eleanor!

  7. This makes me want to reread Little Women–I did when I was really young and barely remember it, it’s time to pick it up again.
