C Is For Crock Pot

No, I didn’t say Crack Pot…I said Crock Pot.  Although there may be those who know me both in real life and in the blog world who think I’m a bit of a crack pot.  Perhaps I am when it comes to Crock Pots.

I currently own three, four if you count the little one meant for potpourri.  I’m not allowed to use that one, but that story will have to be saved until we get to R.

My original crock pot is by my calculations about 37 years old.  Yes, I realize that would make it older than some of my readers.  It’s ok, I love it and Ta Da…it still works!!

Here it is wearing a bag of black beans for a hat!  One of its favorites! It has a chip in the lid, but that actually comes in handy.  It gives the cord a place to go when I store it!  I sadly don’t remember who gave it to me, but I thank them every day.  I use it to make soups and stews and my favorite thing, beans!  It’s 3 quarts.

One day last year on a trip to a local thrift shop, I found…Crock-ette!

The thrift store was having a special that day…Anything with a cord 50% off…I got Crock-ette for $2.50!!  I love to make apples in it and it’s also good for steel-cut oats and I’ve even cooked chicken for Ralph in it. It is a 1 quart.

Hiding in the basement is a brand new 5 quart crock pot that I got on sale last year around Christmas, but I haven’t used yet.  That one is designated for chili and really big soups.  I need to break it out and use it!

Another crock pot will be joining the family when my friend Gail who is in Florida now, gets back to New Jersey at the end of April.  She found a 1 & 1/2 quart oval beauty for me at a yard sale for $5.00.  I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

This may sound like a weird obsession.  There was a TV show on in the 90’s called Love & War.  In it one of the characters was a garbage man.  In one episode the other characters go to his house for a party.  Decoratively arranged on a table by the wall was a collection of Crock pots, obviously meant to be things he had picked up in his line of duty.  I thought that was hysterical!  I tried to find a photo to use, but I wasn’t able to.  That’s sort of the way I am with crock pots.  I love them, I Use them, they are very Cool!

Happy  “C” Day!!  Go buy a Crock Pot!!!

  1. As Pop said the year he gave me mine “a crockpot for the crackpot” ! Croclpots are warm and comfy and just make a house feel like a home especially in the winter.

I like tha alphabet. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.

  2. How have you managed to keep a crockpot for 37 years! The first one we got when we were married was worn out after 10.

We only have one at the moment; a big one for roasts and major meals. But I miss my little one that was more for soups and rice and stuff. Crockpots are awesome, although I really hate cleaning them. That’s their only downfall.

  3. My pot is a little cracked too. I think that’s why I like this blog so much. I love my crock pot, especially in the summer when I can put a roast or a chicken to cook all day and not add more heat to the house with the oven. I inly have a 1 1/2 quart oval and a crockette, but that is all DW and I need right now. I might go for that monster one to make soups in later in the year.

  4. Lovely post – utterly removed from what I generally read and post, which is what makes all this so much fun!

  5. Not at all a weird obsession! Or at least I hope not, haha, ’cause I’m kinda in love with my crock pot. It’s no 37 year old classic, but it crocks things juuust right.

  6. Your personality shines in your post, it’s better than the 37 year old crock pot!
