A Jumble In My Mind

Saturday started off with good news at Weight Watchers.  I lost 1 pound!  My hard work and diligence paid off and I was excited!  But I hadn’t slept well and I think that piece of the puzzle started me out on a disjointed day.

As is my usual routine, I did not have breakfast before going to WW.  I pick up coffee on the way and take water with me, but that holds me through the meeting.  Breakfast usually comes after.  However after WW I went directly to my sister Ele’s church to help with the monthly rummage sale.  I usually try to take something with me to hold me over but didn’t. We did get coffee half way through the day and although the other ladies got snacks, I declined.

It wasn’t until after we closed the sale at 2pm that I got the chance to eat.  Ele and I picked up Ralph at the house and went to our go to spot, Picasso’s.  I of course got my go to favorite, pepper and egg sandwich.

It did not disappoint!  Especially since I hadn’t eaten all day!  I think it was the not eating all day that set me off on a difficult evening.  I kept looking around for something to snack on.  I wasn’t really hungry, but I think it was a combo of being tired from not sleeping well and maybe not having enough real fuel that made me like that.  I haven’t had an evening like that in a while, and I really didn’t like it.

I slept well last night and feel like I’m going to be much more on track today, which is good since we’ve got some snacks around due to Super Bowl this evening.  It’ll just be Ralph and me, but I still need to be cautious, which I will be.

Haven’t talked about books much lately, but I just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

This was a beautifully written book as was his other book, The Kite Runner.  It is not always a happy story, but I really enjoyed it.

I finally got on the bandwagon with everyone else in the English-speaking world ( and probably the non-English speaking world!) and I’m reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

The Hunger Games (Hunger Games Series #1)

I’m not far into it yet but it certainly pulls you into the action of the story right away.  I like that.  I’ve heard a lot of people say how much they like this so I’m looking forward to some serious reading today.   It’ll be good to have something to do between the commercials during the Super Bowl! 😉

I’ll share Saturday’s beautiful sunrise.

It actually got much more beautiful as the sun came up.  Unfortunately, I was driving and couldn’t get the really good shots.  This will have to do.  Hello, Gnarly Tree!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!  Go Giants!

I haven’t gotten to Hunger Games yet either, but need to do it soon – the 1st movie is already on the way…

  2. I never do well if I put off eating for too long…I get crazed.
I haven’t read Hunger Games yet, but I am intrigued by it! Another one for the list!

  3. How funny…I am finally reading Hunger Games too – just started it last night! And A Thousand Splendid Suns was one of my most favorite books ever!! I can’t wait for his next book.

    Happy Sunday Fran!

    • Oh, Ameena…I didn’t know he had a new one coming…I’m so excited. I loved Kite Runner. I did it on audio and the author read it. It was great because when I read sometimes I don’t know how to pronounce things from another language. It helped having him read it. I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns. His writing style is so comfortable to read, very natural. Hunger Games is interesting so far. Happy Sunday!

  4. Great post. Let me know your opinion of the hunger games. If you like it, then I’ll try it out.

  5. Well done on the result at WW.
I read The Hunger Games and really enjoyed it – I’m looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out.

  6. Love the combination of food and books. I think you nailed if with that “rumaging” feeling we can all get when we haven’t eaten enough. Sleep and timing of food is key. As for books, I haven’t joined the rest of the world with Hunger Games. I am reading, just started, Tolstoy and the Purple Chair.

    • Hi Lauren! I resisted Hunger Games for a while too. I spent my whole vacation in Florida trying to find a used copy. Finally asked a young friend of mine to borrow hers. I’m trying not to pay real money for books unless I have to. Glad you understand what I meant about looking around for things after not eating all day. I did better on Sunday. Have a good week!
