Our adventure for Thursday was a trip to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. I wasn’t sure I was up for the zoo, but once we got there, there was no question that it was a great idea.
The zoo is about a half hour ride from where we are in Clearwater. We decided we needed to be fortified for the task ahead. We decided to go to the Golden Corral which was on the way. Gail and I love Golden Corral because they have such an extensive salad bar.
My kind of salad…three kinds of lettuce, mushrooms, peas, black olives, sunflower seeds, slivered almonds and a lite balsamic vinagrette. Very good.
I couldn’t resist a baked sweet potato. I really have to get sweet potatoes at home because I love them.
We got to the z00 at about 1pm.
I had heard from Gail and Alice about this zoo for a long time. I can’t tell you what an amazing experience it was. The animals are in very natural enclosures with beautiful foliage and you can tell that they are well-tended. I took So many pictures that it will take a week to post them all.
You know you’re in a foreign land when you see poinsettia growing outdoors in January!
A beautiful white bird. I should have written down what things were but I did not. He is beautiful none the less.
He’s saying hello to all of you!
Scarlet ibises looking like fluffy Christmas ornaments in the tree. Beautiful!
In the parakeet house!
Feeding the lorikeets!!
They were so beautiful and friendly. I’m ready for my closeup, Mr. DeMille…
I have to say that I impressed myself with this photo. The lorikeet is on my finger. It took a couple of tries to take the picture one-handed but I’m very pleased with it. This is one I think I might print out and frame. Wouldn’t it be fun to have all of those colorful feathers?!?
Well, I guess it’s time to get out of here…I’ll share more photos in the next few days.
Our adventure today is a trip to St. Petersburg. We love it there…so many interesting shops and the most incredible book store. Hopefully we get to make a stop there.
