WIAW…The Anniversary Edition

First of all, an apology for the fact that I didn’t post yesterday.  I have to say that I definitely felt like something was missing from my day.  I’ll try not to allow that to happen again.

There are a lot of things to celebrate around here today.  First of all it’s Wednesday and any regular readers of BCDC know that means that it’s What I Ate Wednesday, the wonderful Food Fest presented weekly by the lovely Jenn over at Peas & Crayons.  Be sure to visit, see what’s happening, leave some comments and decide what to make for dinner!

Peas and Crayons

I’m excited to tell you all that today is the one year anniversary of Broken Cookies Don’t Count!  I had hoped to make this a review of some of the wonderful things that happened during this year.  However, I just got off of a plane after a wonderful weekend in Maine and I can’t really think straight.  Over the next few days I’ll do a review.  For now I would just like to thank one special young lady who got me into this madness know as blogging.  In August of 2010, my friend Kristen told me about this idea she had about starting a blog.  She started it and eventually helped me to start BCDC.  For that, I will be forever grateful.  That may sound a little bit over stated, but believe me, it’s not.

Let’s get to the reason why we all show up on Wednesday.  Food!!

On Monday, we were in Boothbay Harbor and ready for lunch.  This time of year there are not a lot of places open, but one place that was open is McSeagulls.  Gail and I were very impressed with the fact that we had a great many vegetarian choices on this trip.  McSeagulls had several good choices for us.

My choice was a Portobello mushroom and brie panini and sweet potato fries.

This was really delicious.  The fries were so good, they were not greasy and not overly salty.  Great Choice!

When we were preparing for our trip to Maine, Gail looked up some restaurants where we might eat.  She found The Great Impasta in Brunswick, Maine.  It was small, but you can tell that it’s a very popular place, with good reason.

I started with a salad and honestly, I was so hungry, I forgot to take a photo to start!

For my entrée, I had aglio olio on penne pasta…

Accompanied by a garlic knot.  This was a delicious dish.  Everyone was very pleased with their choices.  It’s a great spot and we would go there again.

Our last day in Maine, we headed back to Portland.  We were flying out of Manchester, New Hampshire, so we thought we’d spend the afternoon there because it would be closer to Manchester.  We decided on lunch at Three Dollar Deweys.

Again, we had quite a few vegetarian choices and I tried something I don’t get very often, falafel.

It was very tasty and I was able to get it with a side caesar salad.  It also came with a lemon tahini sauce.  Very filling too!

So that’s WIAW the Happy Anniversary edition. Please be sure to stop over at Peas & Crayons.  It’s such fun to be part of all the excitement over there.  One of the things I’ve learned during this past year is to dive in and try something.  I took a long time to become part of WIAW.   I know now that I should have gotten involved sooner.  Thanks to Jenn for starting all the fun and allowing all of us to play along.

Happy WIAW!!  Happy Anniversary to BCDC!!
