From Brunswick To Freeport To Portland

We started our Sunday early with breakfast which was included with our room.

The pretty tree in the breakfast room.

Coffee, raisin bran, milk, apple, peanut butter and banana.  Sadly the banana was not any good when I opened it.  Otherwise, everything was tasty.

Margot, Gail and Alice.

In spite of the frost on the windshield…

We  headed to Freeport, Maine to…

L.L. Bean!  We were excited to look around.  You could spend a week in this place and not look at the same thing twice.  It is quite a place.

We then rode toward Portland and stopped briefly at Portland Head Light…

It was so beautiful.  Unfortunately we didn’t have time to stop in.  Next time, perhaps.

We picked up Gail’s brother, Ray at the airport and then went in  search of food.  We got a recommendation from two young men we stopped on the street and found ourself at Gritty McDuff’s.

I’ve never been to a pub where they brew their own beer.  This was called Red Claw and was really tasty.

Dinner was a Portobello mushroom and cheese melt with spinach and grilled onions.  It was delicious!  I shouldn’t have, but I ate all of the fries, too.

The whole gang at the Pub.  It was very good and we will be going back again!

It was a long day.  After dinner, we crossed Commercial Street seeing all of the beautiful Christmas lights.

We headed back to Brunswick and we wer happy to be turning in for the night.

We’re all looking forward to going to the closing tomorrow and then having the chance to see inside the cabin!

Happy Monday!

  1. NOOOOOOO!!!!! you went to LLBean without me!!!!! That is my Mecca! I do believe that you could live and ide in that store and never have to leave. Lucky ducks! But you did take a picture of a lighthouse so you are forgiven! Glad you’re having a wonderful time.

  2. Any fries you eat at a pub don’t count. No, I’m serious. We only go to pubs a few times a month, and I figure that I can eat whatever I want while I’m there. Your sandwich looks delicious.

  3. I’m jealous. What a great trip. Keep us posted

  4. I must say you always look like you are having so much fun. It’s great that you put importance on your family and friends and carve out time to be with them.

    Portobello burger, it looks divine.

  5. Oh my gosh! What a fun trip!!!!! It looks like a beautiful area. And I love that shopping!

  6. I love visiting Maine. I have spent many a summer in Camden and no summer visit was ever complete without a stop in Freeport for LL Bean and some Ben & Jerry’s.
Looks like you ladies had a great time.

  7. I love me some L.L Bean…we were just talking about them in my marketing class, and how they do a great job of making everyone feel welcome–from the very first moment when they greet you as you walk in the door.

  8. How pretty! And no worries, we had frost on our cars in NJ this morning, so you didn’t miss a frost-free morning!
I can never resist French fries…especially well-done ones.

  9. I’ve definitely been in that L.L. Bean store, and yeah, you could definitely get lost in it. But then you could just grab a tent and a sleeping bag and just hang out ’til someone found you…
