I sure felt like I played hookey on Sunday. I should have set up something to post on Sunday but Saturday night was tricky.
We drove away from the house Sunday at 5am. We knew we had a long day ahead of us so we headed to WaWa for coffee and dug into our stash of Nature Valley Granola bars for early breakfast.
After a while on the road, we decided we needed a rest room/snack break so we stopped somewhere in Pennsylvania. I had something I hadn’t had in years, breakfast from Burger King.
An egg and cheese croissant with hash browns that were sort of like tater tots! I made the mistake of not realizing that coffee came with it and we went to another spot in the service area for coffee. The Burger King items were good (How on Earth do I count it??) but the coffee was dreadful. Ah well, you live and learn!
We traveled well with no problems and by around 2pm we found ourselves crossing into Indiana. We needed gas so we stopped for some lunch too.
Brocolli and cheese soup
Salad from an extensive salad bar. I’ve never seen such a nice salad bar at a rest stop.
There was even fresh fruit!
All very tasty.
We went through several rain storms along the way.
An interesting twist here. Ralph’s son Bill has been spending the week visiting an old friend of his in Indianapolis. We called him to see if maybe we could meet up with him on our way through. We heard back from him, got directions and were on our way for a quick visit.
I had heard about Bill’s friend for years and was so happy to meet Josh and Krista and their two little ones.
Meet my new best friend, Millie and her baby, Sally.
I was such a fun and unexpected visit. We loved it! I won’t mention the pizza I ate. 😦
As we were leaving I captured the beautiful sunset…
We made it all the way to Terre Haute where we turned in for the night at a nice Day’s Inn with at an amazing price. Love getting a bargain on the road!
It’s Monday now and we’re packing up to head out. Not sure where we’ll end up at the end of the day. The adventure continues!
Happy Labor Day!!
