It’s kind of sad when good things happen for bad reasons. By that I’m talking about getting to see someone who you love and miss but a funeral is the reason why you see that person.
My good friend, Bettysue who lives in Florida was in New Jersey due to the death of the woman she would call her adopted Mother. A wonderful lady who stood by her and behind her when she needed someone to do that. Sadly, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease she passed away this week. She was a lovely lady and will be sorely missed. However, because of this I got to see Bettysue.
We first met the summer I after I graduated from college and she graduated from high school. We both worked for the summer in the kitchen at a local nursing home. It was hot and smelly and hard, but we loved it and we became fast friends. It was one of the best jobs as far as the schedule. We worked 11am-7pm. We didn’t have to get up too early and we were home while it was still light and early enough to go out and do fun things.
We’ve stayed friends through weddings and divorces and babies (for her) and losses. She’s the kind of friend you can not talk to for a year and yet when you talk it’s like you just spoke yesterday. We stay in touch through e-mail and now through Facebook.
We decided to meet for lunch at the Colonial Diner in Woodbury. She was coming down from North Jersey and called when she was leaving. Unfortunately, most of southern New Jersey was hit by terrible rain storms. I told her that when she called, she told me it was clear where she was. It was a torrential downpour when I left my house and it hadn’t changed when I reached the diner. I got drenched going in and as I dried out, Bettysue called to say she was stuck in back ups due to flooding.
Fortunately, she got there safely and we sat and talked for over 2 hours. We always have so much to talk about and this time was no different.
We were both wet and soggy, but we had the best time! It took us forever to eat because we were talking so much!
I had the Spinach Balsamic Salad. Tasty as always and I felt like I was staying on track. I initially forgot to take a photo, but since Bettysue is also a BCDC reader, she reminded me! 😉
Eventually we had to part and it was sad. We’ll stay in touch until our next chance to be together, but it was great!
This morning I headed to Weight Watchers bright and early. With Gail and Alice in Florida, I was on my own, but I knew I’d be meeting up with my other WW group for breakfast after the meeting. I was excited about that.
I was even more excited when I got on the scale. In spite of being on track with my food this week, I just felt bulky. Was I ever surprised after weigh-in…I lost a pound and a half! That makes me only a half pound from my personal goal. I’m very proud of myself and everyone was also glad for my success. 😉
After the meeting we all met at the Country House Restaurant. Even though this is a great place for breakfast, I decided I would continue to stay on track.
Two scrambled eggs, fruit cup and dry rye toast. I wanted to stay in line in case Ralph and I decide to do something later. I was happy with my choice.
Our little group…
Eleni and Carol
Debbie and Kristen
Me and Pat
We had a great time and talked and talked. We got to hear all about Kristen’s new apartment and are planning a housewarming soon.
I’m smiling because of my weight loss today and I will try to stay on track with my eating for the rest of the weekend. Chose wisely is my new motto! I’m also smiling because of good friends. On my way from WW to the restaurant, I called Gail to share my good news with her and Alice. They were happy for me, too!
Not sure what the rest of the day will bring but the sun is shining and I don’t think there will be any more storms. But then again…you never know! 😉
