Recap Head Slap

The last few days have been strange.  Good things happening, sad things happening. Ralph and I were able to work out a few things that have been frustrating us, find a few things that were lost and have a few ideas of upcoming plans.  All very vague isn’t it.  I’m feeling a touch vague so we’ll all just have to live with it.

We had to go to a viewing Monday morning which was the sad thing.  Not much you can do but show up and give hugs.  We did that.  It can be very emotional, I always seem to put myself in the position of the person who’s lost someone.  Ralph does it, too.  You feel turned inside out.  Of course, it’s even worse for the person actually experiencing it.  I’ve been that person, I suppose we all have at some point.  It leaves you feeling lost.  Not much more I can say about that.

I forgot to share something wonderful that we saw at the Dr. Who party on Saturday.  This is for all of my quilt loving friends.

We were at the Narberth borough hall.  There is a wonderful quilt that hangs there commemorating the town’s 100th anniversary.

I thought this was so amazing.  It’s hard to see, but it depicts the four seasons.  I stood staring at it for a long time, it was outstanding!

Apparently the photo issues I was having yesterday were only from my perspective.  Spoke to Ele and she said she had no trouble with the photos.  When I checked them this morning, they look fine on yesterday’s post.  I guess it’s just when I first add them to the post.  For Goodness Sakes!  Will I never get this whole blog/computer/Wordpress thing figured out?!?  I’ll keep trying!

I always start out each day with big list of all that I’m going to accomplish.  I’ve got one of those lists today.  I’m hoping to at least accomplish one or two.  First on the list…Post on BCDC…Check!!

Just Land Somewhere

I remember when I was little that although I was chubby I could move around pretty good.  My mother would often say to me, “Will you just “light” somewhere?!”  I’m not even sure how to spell that, but what she meant was land somewhere, stay in the same spot for a few minutes.  As I look over Monday, it seems I needed “light” somewhere.

I got my pinto beans in the crock pot when I first got up.  After posting on BCDC, I was up and out.  I had things to do.  First thing, was a wonderful treat.  My best friend, Gail had given me a Dunkin’ Donuts coupon that allowed me a free iced coffee every Monday in October!

It even includes the first Monday in November!  It was a little out-of-the-way from my errands, but for free I decided it was worth it. 

Can you say pumpkin spice?!?  It was so good and fueled me through my errands.

I headed first to the produce stand to re-stock.  Romaine, plum tomatoes, apples, potatoes, red bell peppers, and strawberries.  All that for just a little over $11.  I was excited.

Next I headed to Wal-mart for the rest of my grocery shopping.  I kept myself very much under control.  Only splurge was to buy some Sriracha sauce because I found I loved it so much in New Mexico.

This will go a long way and spice up a lot of things!!

When I got home from shopping I did a few things and didn’t get around to eating my overnight oats until Noon!

I made a green tea mix that I’d heard about a few months ago.  If I remember correctly it comes from the Carb Lovers Diet and is supposed to help you lose weight.  I’m not trying to promote that diet and I don’t really know anything about it.  This just sounded tasty and good for me. 

Eight cups of green tea (they don’t say, but I used 8 tea bags.  I boiled 4 cups of water, let the bag steep, then added 4 cups of cold.)  You then add the juice of an orange, a lemon and a lime.  I was lucky and all of the fruit was very juicy.  I added some store brand stevia to it and it’s pretty tasty.   I may add more stevia, but I like it.  The fruit is good for me (and it’s free!) and so is the green tea.  I think I’ll do this again!

Pinto beans cooked to perfection in the crock pot and ready to keep me filled up for the week!

Boy, this is definitely a post for the Human Randomizer!  Anyway…

I wanted to share my treasures from the rummage sale on Saturday.

A teeny tiny Cuisinart mini-processor!!  Did you notice the price??  $1!!! I couldn’t believe it.  It looks like there might be something missing on top, but I just need it for the basics so I don’t really care.  I think I’ll be able to make hummus, now.  So Excited!!

Also 2 great bags for $1 each!!  The first one is much roomier than it looks.  I’ll be able to carry my mini computer in there as well as regular purse things all at the same time.  The second one has an elephant on it and is also very roomy.  So excited to get such a good deal!!

This morning, I’m trying to get myself more focused.  I do have issues with that, don’t I??  I decided it was time to pull out some fall decor, starting with my cool mugs…

Very cool!  I realized I have several different ones.  Makes coffee even more fun, if that’s possible!!

Off to face the day…

Feeling Random

I spent most of Thursday resting because this cold has really done me in.  I’m feeling somewhat better today.   To give you a hint how bad I felt, I didn’t drink any coffee yesterday and haven’t had any today either.  Don’t worry, I’m not giving it up…just didn’t feel the need.

I thought I’d share a few photos I haven’t shared from the trip.  Kind of random shots, but I like them, so I’ll share!

The wind chime that Ralph bought me somewhere on the road and now hangs in our kitchen in Silver City.  It says “Wish.”  Yes, I do…

Lots of religious crafts in New Mexico.  Many of them are really beautiful.

The General Store at Stahmann’s Pecan Estate…the place where I ate the wonderful butter pecan ice cream.

A field of pecan trees on the estate.  As we drove, there were miles of these fields filled with pecan trees. Amazing!  Our friend Del, who we were visiting has pecan trees in her yard.  She sent me home with 2 huge bags of them.  Now I just have to figure out what to do with them!!

As we left the El Paso area, we took a route that Ralph and I had never traveled.  We drove through the Guadalupe mountain rage.  The sights were incredible.  Here are a few photos of Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas.

It was a neat experience to drive through there.  Ralph and I always like to try new routes in order to see something new.  This was truly worth it.  The entire route was beautiful.

So it’s Friday now and I have to get myself moving even if I don’t feel like it.  There is still no food in the house.  We survived yesterday on egg salad that Ralph bought at the local deli and we put it on toast.  It was very good and neither of us was hungry for much more than that. 

I’m off to try to greet the day…Happy Friday!!

The Tootsie Pop Elf Revealed…And Other Shiny Objects

My slightly creepy, slightly freaky feeling regarding the joyous gift of Caramel Tootsie Pops was all alleviated by a phone call I received yesterday morning.  Turns out the Elf was my friend Bettysue from Florida.

Remember her from the day of the flood?  She’s so sweet!  Well, actually, I think she got tired of hearing me whine about not being able to find them.  She took action and went to Ebay to find them!  The name on the package was the person who was shipping them out.  Bettysue called me after reading yesterday’s post to confess.  Now you can understand why I’ve kept her around all these years! 

I had put a bag of black-eyed peas in to soak Monday night so I all I had to do Tuesday morning was put them in the magic crock pot!  I’d never used black-eyed peas before, but that’s all I had in the way of dried beans so I went for it.

Cooked to bean perfection!  I took a cup out and marinated them.  Forgot a photo but the mix was 2 Tbsp each of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, 1 Tbsp of cranberry honey, ground black pepper and dried parsley.  Now…I forgot…again…that the parsley container does NOT have a shaker top.  This resulted, of course in WAY too much parsley going in.  I was able to get some of it out that hadn’t gotten wet so all was well.  I love to marinate beans that way.  Then the beans become the dressing for your salad! ;-)

I was excited because at the produce stand today, I found these lovelies…

Figgies!!  Fresh or dried, they are the Best!  A little pricey, but worth it.

Is a nectarine too juicy if you have to eat it over the sink??  Just askin’…

Overnight oats with strawberries, blueberries and blackberries.  Love some berries.  I don’t think there’s ever been a summer when I’ve had more enjoyment from fresh fruits and vegetables.  That’s probably because I’m consciously thinking about it.  I think that comes under the heading of mindfulness…hmmmm…I need to start meditating again…

So…dinner…

A zucchini and my long skinny eggplant, cut up and sautéed up with just olive oil cooking spray and sea salt.  Snagged a piece before it went into the salad and it passed the Yum Test!!

Chopped up a Jersey plum tomato fresh from the produce stand yesterday as well as a green bell pepper.  Yes, you can tell when it’s a Jersey tomato…no doubt about it!

The finished product in my Big Purple Bowl!  I had never tried the idea of grilling the veggies and then putting them in the salad but I like it.  :-)   I think the other zucchini and eggplant will have the same honor.  Tossed all together with my black-eyed peas…Ralph kept asking me which one was Fergie…**sigh** I’ve gotta keep him, his sisters won’t take him back!! 

Chiropractor appointment today.  Hope we can get my insurance issue straightened out!!  My back has been feeling so good, I want to keep going.  I’m sure we will.

Not sure what else will be happening today.  I heard something about Harry Potter…hmmm…The Human Randomizer…signing off…

The Human Randomizer

Again a day of random thoughts and ideas.  I hear other bloggers talking about the “Randomizer” to select winners for their giveaways.  I guess I am a Human Randomizer these last few days.

Ralph and I were out running some errands.  He suggested Subway and I said take me there!

My favorite…the Veggie!  This time the girl behind the counter asked if I’d like my cheese and roll toasted and I said yes.  I liked it!  Spinach, tomatoes, sweet peppers, green peppers and Lots of black olives topped with their yummy Chipotle sauce.  Delicious!

Came home and set to work on my mountain of fruit. 

Sadly, the pineapple I had bought must have been riper than I thought when I bought it.  When I set to using my wonderful new pineapple slicer, the pineapple itself was a little beyond ripe.  The slicer did work well and I know it will be a big plus when I’m dealing with a fresher pineapple.  That’s why no photos, it truly was not a pretty picture. :-(

Cantaloupe, pineapple and watermelon all cut up and ready for snacking.  I love it when I have it all ready!  Makes me feel in control and ready to stay on track.

Gail left for Florida yesterday for the rest of the summer.  Alice is leaving tomorrow so I was gifted with all of the things in their fridges that needed to be used or thrown away.  I don’t like the idea of “thrown away.”  I’m now the proud owner of a big container of spring mix :-) , oranges, plums, cottage cheese, salsa and MANY other things.  My fridge is busting the seams!

The best thing is this…

It is a wonderful Israeli Couscous salad that Alice made. It’s from a Food Network recipe and trust me, I will be making this and I’ll share the recipe when I do.

Simply put it over a mountain of the gifted greens in my Big Purple Bowl!

So good…I didn’t need any additional dressing.  It was delicious and filling.  I’m always looking for filling!! ;-)

One last random thing for all of you.  I had a comment earlier in the week from another blogger who mentioned Bloglovin’.  It’s a site where you can manage all of the blogs you love to read…all in one place!  It’s great and makes it easy for you to add comments.  You don’t have to keep checking if your favorites have new posts.  You check Bloglovin’ and there they are!  I Love It!  If you enjoy reading a lot of different blogs, this would probably be a plus for you!

I’m still working on being part of NaBloPoMo…National Blog Posting Month.

Still trying to figure out how to get the badges to show up on the face of my blog.  Anybody reading this who has any suggestions, please share.  I’ve e-mailed WordPress several times but had no response.  Frustrating.  :-(

I’m enjoying this because it keeps me posting to prove to myself I can do it.

I can’t believe I’m saying this again, but I have a lot of things I’d like to do today.  I have to get some things done.  We’ll see how I do.  Just me…the Human Randomizer.

Love and (Food)Lust For Random Things

I believe I have officially gotten on the OOIAJ band wagon.  For the uninitiated, that is overnight oats in a jar.  I think the original thought with it was that you put all the fixin’s in a nearly empty nut butter jar and that way you get the last of the goodness.  I don’t have any nut butter jars like that.  I try not to buy them because I will eat them and eat them and then, if the jar is plastic, cut it open and lick out the inside.  Sad but true.

I actually have unopened jars of almond butter and sunflower butter in the cabinet.  I could add it to my OOIAJ, but I’m trying to lower the Points value of it and nut butter would raise the value…but it would add protein…hmmm…I need protein, right…hmmm.  We’ll work on this!  Maybe it’s so good that it’s worth the points!

Yesterday’s OOIAJ…

The base was 1/2 cup of oats, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 a tub of Chobani Lemon yogurt and 1 tbsp of chia seeds.  In the morning I added a palmful of blueberries and one really Big strawberry chopped up.  It was so good and so filling.  I haven’t really been interested in lunch after eating it.  Usually just some additional fruit.  Maybe it’s not too many Points after all!

Stopped at the corner store with Ralph so that he could get a sandwich.  Came upon some things that qualify for TIDNTKE (Things I didn’t need to know existed.)

Cheez Waffies…returning from my childhood.  I can’t tell you how many of these I consumed over the years.  I should…just for fun, mind you…go in with my Weight Watchers calculator and see what the Points would be.  I probably shouldn’t because if they’re not TOO awful, I might be inclined to eat them.  Don’t need that right now.  I’m still reeling from trying on jeans…If I started to eat them I might not stop!! ;-)

TastyKake does it again…Watermelon Pie?!?!?  They also have mango and Creamsicle flavors.  I don’t actually think that they sound very good (maybe the mango) but it’s always something!  They also have Lemon Cupcakes which do sound too good to be believed and they just need to live on the shelf and NOT in  my house…or tummy… :-(  

It was salad for dinner time last night and I think you are probably all sick of seeing my pie plate used as a salad dish…

…Well thanks to the Church Rummage Sale, I have a new and wonderful PURPLE bowl to use as my salad bowl…

Hand added for scale!  It’s more purple than these photos show, but I love it!  It’s deep so things don’t leap out and it’s light weight.  It’s a very heavy plastic and even has a rubber ring on the bottom to keep it from sliding around.  Best part…it only cost 50 cents!! 

So I cooked up some Morningstar Farms Grillers California Turk’y Burgers.

Lots of red and green bell peppers and tomatoes…

Topped with some reduced fat shredded cheese and Ken’s Asian Sesame Ginger & Soy dressing.  Excellent and very filling!  The transition is complete…I love my new bowl.  It’s odd, I think because it looks so big, it made me feel more satisfied.  Ok for me! 

Not sure what my Wednesday will bring.  There’s OOIAJ “cooking” up in the fridge.  I’ve got a lot I’d like to do today.  Will I get it done?  I hope so.  We’ll see how it goes.
