I realize that I missed posting on Friday and I do apologize. We were up very late Thursday night waiting for company that unfortunately never came. We didn’t get to bed until after 1am. We had to be up, ready and on a bus at 7am Friday morning. We didn’t get back to the hotel until almost 5pm.
But we’re having a wonderful time here in Atlanta!
Friday’s adventure was a bus trip to Ft. Benning, Ga. There are always trips like this at Ralph’s reunion, to a local Army base, but we don’t usually go. This year we decided we should go because Ft. Benning is where Ralph attended Officer Candidate School. So we got on the bus and road 2- 1/2 hours to get there.
The major reason for the trip was to attend the dedication of the Americal Division Memorial. Americal is the division in which Ralph served.
It’s a beautiful memorial and it was a particularly moving ceremony. With so many people it was hard to get a clear photo.
The Americal emblem. Ralph wore a patch of this on his uniform when he served. Very simple, but beautiful.
We also visited the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center on Ft. Benning.
The entrance to the museum. What a beautiful place!
It is an amazing facility. We weren’t able to visit the entire museum, but what we saw was wonderful!
We then took the long ride back to Atlanta again. We were very happy to get back to our hotel. After getting back we just planned to rest and relax the rest of the evening. Saturday will be a laid back day culminating with our banquet. Then we’ll be heading back to New Jersey on Sunday.
Happy Saturday!!
