A Day Off?

I generally post on BCDC every day.  I love doing it.  Working on the Blogging A to Z Challenge has been a great deal of fun and I will continue with it on Monday. Not sure of my topic yet, but hasn’t that been the way throughout the Challenge?!  I kind of like the “fly by the seat of your pants” approach.

I contemplated not posting today.  Who would miss me for one day.  I’ve got 20 things on my list of things to do today even though it’s Sunday.

I talked about the things I’ve been finding that need to be sent to other people…gotta get those ready to go out in tomorrow’s mail.  Got paperwork to get ready to send out, that’s another project.

I’ve got to get some reading done.  Haven’t been talking about reading much lately, but I’m still on my mission.  Found a book that I’ve stuck with, finally.

A Novel Bookstore

It’s very interesting.  I’ve had this for a few years and it just kept getting moved down in the pile.  I started it and wasn’t sure what I thought.  It’s translated from the French and it was a little hard to get comfortable with the rhythm of the translator’s style.  I didn’t Want to stop reading it, because I had paid real money for this one.  I’ve got the rhythm now and the story has really pulled me in.  I have been working on projects so I haven’t been reading quite as much as I was so there needs to be some time for it today.

Speaking of books, sister Ele and I went to the local county library book sale.  We got there at about 11am and we saw people carrying out boxes of books on dollies.  A man that we passed had the nerve to say there wasn’t much left.  He was joking of course.  I do feel as though I restrained myself.  I bought a total of 7 books, that’s VERY good.  Three for Ralph and four for me.

The extra book on the bottom is one I got at the rummage sale last week.  Yes, there’s a Barbara Kingsolver book in there.  I know I didn’t like The Poisonwood Bible, and stopped reading it in the middle.  But I did really like Animal Dreams and I’m hoping that Pigs in Heaven will be more like that one.  We’ll see.

Can you also see from this photo that my desk needs to be the next focus of Operation Kickstart?  It’s true and that’s my plan as soon as I sort out the mess I started the end of last week.

So that’s my day off post!  I’m going to be busy.  Then late this afternoon we’re going out to lunch for another birthday celebration…not Ralph’s this time, although, it is still April.  I think this can count for his birthday too! ;-)

Happy Sunday!!

  1. I would miss you if you didn’t post! :)

I love library book sales, but I try my hardest to avoid them because I don’t have room for one more thing in this house. ;)

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  2. ah a library book sale–one of the best things ever! I ended up having to get a kindle though because we ran out of book space Have a lovely day ‘off’

  3. Anita Shreve never disappoints! I hope you enjoy all your new books…and your weekend Fran!

  4. I enjoyed your blog and noticed the title of one of the books you took home from the library. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is a great book and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

  5. oh i love that ralph will get to benefit from yet another bday celebration!
and yes that is GREAT restraint at limiting yourself to 7 books! i think i gave up on the poisonwood bible, too, if i remember…i hope you enjoy these selections!
maybe tackle your desk as tomorrow’s to do?!
i blogged every single day last year for part of my kikiproject and it is true, you just get into the rhythm of daily blogging and it becomes an enjoyable part of the daily routine!

    • Cathy, you’re so right about daily blogging. I think I did miss a day or two last year, but it was when we were on one of our cross country trips and it was just to hard to get it done before we hit the road. I’m going to try to not let that be the case this year. Even if it’s short, I’m going to post!!

  6. I’m like you in that I have to catch up on my reading. It’s been put off for other things … isn’t that always the way?
I also have taken on the A-Z Challenge and do my posts on the fly. It’s so much more fun that way. :)

    • Hi Janyce! Glad you came to visit! I do plan some posts in advance but mostly, it’s life as it happens. I’ve been thinking I need to come up with some regular features. Gotta work on that. Hope you’re enjoying the A to Z…I am. Please stop by again!

  7. I get a lot of books from garage sales but do most of my reading from books I check out of the library. I have only read one Barbara Kingsolver book and it was okay.

    • Hi Diane. I’ve been getting books from the library if I really want to read something in particular and can’t find it at a thrift or garage sale and can’t borrow it from a friend. Second hand is the best way to buy a book, when it comes to price. I’ll be having a yard sale in June and I have lots to sell so I’ll be supplying other people! ;-)
